It was the Philadelphia Eagles, led by Jalen Hurts, who struck first in Super Bowl LIX.
With 6:30 remaining in the first quarter, Hurts found Jahan Dotson down the sideline on a 27-yard pass, initially ruled a touchdown. However, after an official review, the ball was placed at the 1-yard line, setting up the Eagles’ signature Tush Push. Hurts powered into the end zone for his fourth career Super Bowl rushing touchdown. A successful Jake Elliott extra point gave Philadelphia a 7-0 lead.
Eagles’ Defense Shuts Down Chiefs’ Opening Drive
The Eagles’ defense quickly made an impact, forcing Patrick Mahomes into a third-down incompletion due to relentless pressure. This led to a Chiefs punt, which was returned 12 yards by Cooper DeJean, positioning Philadelphia well at their own 32-yard line.
Hurts and Goedert Drive the Offense
Hurts wasted no time, firing a 20-yard strike to Dallas Goedert to push the Eagles across midfield. After two short Saquon Barkley runs, the Eagles faced a pivotal third down.
Hurts looked for Goedert again but overthrew him – only for Trent McDuffie to be flagged for a defensive penalty, extending the drive and giving Philadelphia another chance to control the game.
Chiefs Look to Respond
The Eagles capitalized on early opportunities, but with Mahomes and the Chiefs’ explosive offense, the game remains wide open. Can the Kansas City Chiefs bounce back?
